why do i always start with "i haven't updated in really long"...

So i wore my tie dye shirt to school on lecture day (tuesday) and i received alot of comments on it! i thought it didn't look as good because the dye is so faded. juu's a happy girl ^o^v

so... presenting to you

HOW TO DYE FABRICS!

firstly, you need a plain tee! in this case a white plain v-neck tee from Muji

2. silly! of course you don't do tie dye with food colourings! buy the necessary dyes from Spotlight or any art store.

this is the one we used!

3. fill a basin with warm tap water

4. attempt to open the dye (very hard to open! directions say to stab it with a knife o__o) without dyeing yourself (HAR HAR HAR, get the pun?)

5. empty the dye powder into 500ml of water (we smartly used a mineral water bottle ;D)

oh yes oh yes! and a huge reminder here! KEEP YOUR PETS AWAY!!!
imagine if ziggy turns into a red dog :O & he kept bugging ros -__-

6. add the salt to the mixture. google it and you will find that salt helps the fabric to absorb the colours faster.

look look look! what did i tell you! now he's drinking from our basin! we totally screamed when we heard the lapping sound -__-

7. pour the dye mixture into the basin of water

8. mix the dye solution + water and make sure no residue is left!!

9. when you finish stirring, your gloves should look like something that you just picked up from a murder scene.

10. Ready to dip the shirt! Don't be afraid! Ros is doing gradient, so she just dipped the bottom part of the shirt in.

just look at how ros does it! (:

11. Leave for about an hour for the dye to be retained in the fabric. I wasn't about to ask ros to hold it there so we thought of this ingenious plan (muahaha).

---

because we had 2 more shirts and Ros bought an extra colour, we decided to try out tie dye-ing! Like geeks in front of youtube and various DIY websites, we managed to come up with a "pattern" we each fancied most. for this, you need...

1. Rubberbands! the rubberbands create the white on the fabric. The creator of the lovely patterns really!

2. awesome folding skills like ros and I (muahaha). Just google/youtube it! you'll find so many variations!

Ros with her shirt ready to change its colour! Simply dip whichever area you want to the respectiv colour. EASY!

Our shirts -- Ros(left), Juu(right).

Too bad i dont have a photo of the completed shirt! The colours on our tiedyed shirts are really light and faded though. Impatient us left it in for only about 15 minutes =p but i quite like the result nonetheless (:

25th Oct 2008
Worked alone (no more boyf in the shop for 8 hours D:), was talking to wenmei online when we decided to go for dinner at 9 (we both ended then).

I usually only trust sakae sushi & sushi tei when it comes to japanese "restaurants" but we went to Suki Sushi at Cine anyway because we guessed that our dear liqin was working. & we were right! :D Wenwen & i were starving so we thought we'd order something soupy to fill our tummies.

I decided on beef udon while wen had katsu ramen (aiya somewhere along that line, i was too hungry to pay attention to names). I was expecting a few pieces of meat thrown into the noodles kinda thing.

Waiting time was relatively long, but i would say it's pretty much worth it. Our noodles came on a separate dish from the meat -- plus point. With the meat was also greens, salad type. I loveeee. All in all, the portions were huge, very worth it. & that bowl was under $10 (exclusive of service charge and GST). Downside though, is that suki sushi doesnt serve ice water. it is 50c, but refillable.

looks pretty decent, doesn't it!

p/s: all pictures above were taken with my dear Jayden (:

bwahaha, hello NSboy!

while heading home it started to pour so we decided to cab home. who knows that bloody cabs dont stop at taxi stands, so we waited for about 45 minutes before we finally boarded one D:

22 October 2008

met wern after lecture.

i don't know why he's acting cute there. teeheehee.

14 Oct 2008

First lecture day, had alot of time to spare before NRA at 8 so my lovely serene decided to take me to Daily Scoop at Sunset Way.

They have really funky flavours there! Think Wasabi Mango, Lychee Martini and Baileys. Will drag serene back there again when we're down or smth, lol!

Back to school, it was only at 7pm when we were told that NRA was cancelled D: D: D: we therefore camwhored and decided to do a self practice session instead.

first day of Semester 2 today.

My relatively slack timetable actually enabled me to reach school one hour early for class (at 3pm), so i met up with Jyings and caught up with her a little bit. Contemporary Issues (IS) was good, I have a German teacher who is a qualified archeologist and museum curator. WOW.

So anyway, I've been wanting to make use of the multi purpose hanger my mom got me from Ikea. A few months ago, i found my mom's collection of belts, hidden in her closet. Going through them I discovered some really vintage and interesting ones that clearly steer away from the norms (or what you call the far east plaza belts =p). Putting our belts together, we clearly have many many many many many.
the photo does not do the actual amount justice at all, lol.

One bad thing about leather is that it wears out after long periods of time, especially when not in use. I picked up this corduroy waist belt, pretty and all, but the back was flaking really badly.

yes, okay i believe the photo says it all.

Did a little work, a little vacuuming, and the belt is clean and usable again!

tada~

I decided to categorize the belts so that everything would be more systematic. Okay from this photo it really does look like there are alot of belts right!

After half an hour of hanging~

The hanger is now awfully and insanely heavy i could do weights with it. No surprize, the initial (clothes) hanger used to hold up the belts is now in the bin because it is stretched beyond hanger shape. From the photo it still looks messy and you probably dont see how i slung it in each hole so that one belt flaps over another and they are all pretty damn easy to remove. Also from left to right, the colours go from dark to light, then colourful! ;D

So exciting! or am i only the one -___-

p/s: I wanted to blog the details of the more interesting ones but I'm tired and its 2am.
p/p/s: I realized i should have counted the number of belts while i was hanging them, oh well -o-

returned to NRA today after quite some time. Thanks to Wenmei and Sijia for teaching me the steps before the actual class. Felt pretty demoralized after I was commented on having a couple of very silly mistakes, but Becca's lil talk at the end of the class actually made me feel alot better. I can totally see my own problem, the whole image consciousness shit, how i only do the stuff i know i can and look okay/good doing. That leaves me with my weak points unpracticed so they never ever get to improve.

So silly right! I'm very sure I'm not afraid of failure, so it's just that whole thing i mentioned that i need to overcome. I should know better than to feel upset over someone picking out my mistakes! I did that too to my little tots when i was still coaching ballet and it's not that they're lousy or anything, pointing out the mistakes just help them to realize where/what's wrong, how they should improve and then they will, after practicing.

Okay the above two paragraphs might make me sound highly retarded but thats just a mental note to self so dont mind it. Also, I never knew that that many people would actually realize that i haven't been turning up. It's pretty heartwarming. Go, Go, Go, Juu.
